My kids and I have a hole in our hearts a mile wide. sad.gif sad.gif sad.gif sad.gif sad.gif

Bill passed away yesterday morning from a massive heart attack. He was 42 years old. He woke up yesterday morning, we had a conversation (about LSCN, what else?) and he collapsed on the kitchen floor. Jackson and I called 911. The operator talked me through mouth to mouth and chest compressions until EMS arrived. They worked on him for about a 1/2 hour and took him to the hospital. I think they shocked him 3 or 4 times.

The kids and I followed a few minutes later, calling every family person in the metro area. When we got to the hospital, they showed us into a little room with boxes of kleenex on tables. The doctor and nurse spoke with me separately and told me Bill was pretty much gone when they brought him in. They then let me break the news to the kids.

We donated Bill's organs to the Gift of Life, so parts of him will live on in others. I only hope they realize what truly gracious gifts they are receiving.

Visitation is at Wm Sullivan and Sons Funeral Home in Royal Oak on 11 Mile, 3 blocks east of Woodward. Bill will be there on Thursday from 4-9 pm and Friday noon till 9. The funeral is on Saturday at St. Andrew's Episcopal Church at 11:00 am. The church is on Main St. (Livernois), just north of 14 Mile. A trust fund will be set up for Jackson and Adrian.

Bill was truly devoted to his family and his friends. He took his moderating "job" seriously and was passionate about boating and Lake St. Clair.

We would've celebrated our 17th wedding anniversary the end of April. I can honestly say he was my best friend and we had a great relationship. I thought we had forever.

Help us celebrate the person he was and the life he lived. Raise a glass, say a toast and hug your children and spouse. Bill died as he lived--knowing the people he loved, loved him.

Thanks to all who've called and expressed their thoughts and prayers. We've got a long, difficult road ahead, but Bill gave us "tools" and shared his sense of humor with the kids and me. We'll draw on our great memories to get by.

Christine, Jackson and Adrian

Christine and Family... words cannot express the sorrow we are all feeling. It's difficult not to reach out and call and email... in lieu of that I have been compiling the following over the last day:

I wasn't close to the Oliver family... but being on the same board and reading the thoughts and the personalities and seeing him at events... you REALLY get the sense that you knew him as a good friend. Always witty, well versed, interesting to read... I can't imagine LSCN without him... He's known for being a solid good family guy with a great strong relationship with his wife and children and pure love of boating. He will be missed by many.

I know it's long... but I captured first everybody's comments from the "what are you known for" thread... and then quoted him going back through the years.

Rest in peace... you have left your mark and will be well remembered and thought of.

XO: XO's, Bill272's, and DaileyInterests for starting the ToT LoT.......thanks to Hammer and SPYC!!!!

Mrs P-29: Bill 272: Humor for sure.

pauligan: Bill272 for his humor

fast eddie: bill272 evil thinking, sneaky like a cat, but a cool dude, in stealth mode

bill272 on XO: XO for editing every single post from Fast~Eddie...

fast eddie: XO, BILL272, FRECKLES, DAILEYS, are some of the kindest people I have ever met

Shoregasm III: Bill272 = the best person you'll know!!

Rerun: Bill272- always talking boats..the man enjoys his boats.

Sosassy: Bill272 - his unexpected swims in the lake

Mooseknuckle: Bill272 for always helping us anchor our boat at the Moot.

threecrabs: Freckles and Bill272 for both being so boat/water savvy!!!

wiz: Bill 272 – Father Bill comes to mind (From Halloween at Brown’s a few years back)

perfect fit: Bill272- I have met you a couple of times on the lake and your a gentleman. Always willing to help me have a little fun with Dailey-Interest. A great Husband and father...

I took Jackson to the Pistons game last night, and there was a lot of gotti look-alikes. I must be getting old, because I remember when the show came out and thought that they looked like complete idiots. Now they've spawned wannabes. Most looked to be 14-18, but there was a guy in our row who was probably 40 - big frosted spikes, fake tan, bling.

Question?
Bill272 Posted on: Jan 18 2006, 10:40 AM

I don't think the board needs the swearing, and I've been letting things go lately because I've been busy with work and the not trying to be a nazi about it. Plus, we're not getting many reported posts lately, except when the f-bombs start flying.

I don't mind cleaning up posts, but I'd rather people do it themselves. Throw in some asterisks or something and make it easy for everyone. That way no one has to report it, we don't have to edit it and then deal with the "isn't this a free country?" bVll$hit, and board members don't have to worry about their kids seeing anything too offensive on the site.

Easy peasy, rice and cheesy...

There were some kids throwing snow/ice chunks out over the falls at the time, I'm guessing it's one of those.

I heard Nino Slavagio lets Bill272 come over and go through his private stock, then has it delivered by Mr. Salvagio to Bill272 house personally !

Dailey, P29, and XO told me that.

I can't believe it. I only told those guys about that on one condition - "Fast-Eddie must never, and I mean NEVER, find out about this." What did you do to them to make them give up that information?

I haven't been watching anything consistantly lately. I do tend to watch the HBO series when they're on though - Deadwood, Sopranos, Curb your Enthusiasm (the shoe thread reminded me of that...lol), Six Feet Under. Otherwise it's stuff on the HD channels or Discovery or the History channel. Or South Park.

And I've posted about it before, but I think Nanny 911 is the only reality show worth a damn. They start with a family who's home life is completely in shambles, parents screaming, kids fighting, one parent doing nothing to help out, etc, and teach the kids how to contol themselves and the parents how to parent in a week. And the parents are always the ones who say "There's no way this will work with my kids". It's pretty amazing when they say stuff like it's the first time the kids went to sleep before midnight in 6 years and the kids are sleeping at 9:30. Lots of good tips, and they might not be changing the world, but they are changing the people's lives that they help.

One reply in this thread reminded me of a conversation I had with my 11 year old son about a week ago.

Jackson: Dad, how old is Gerald Ford?
Me: I don't know, probably late 80's, early 90's.
J: Really? I didn't think he looked that old.
M: Well he was probably at least in his mid 50's when he was president, and that was 30 years ago.
J: He was president???
M: Um...yeeesss... after Nixon??
J: Oh wait, I mean the guy who played Han Solo in Star Wars...

Kids...

what do you do most often when boating ?
Bill272 Posted on: Nov 1 2005, 11:19 AM

Usually we run out and raft up with friends. Sometimes to an island (Gull, Seaway), sometimes a bay (Muscamoot, Goose, Munchies, MacRay), sometimes Metro or a marina. We spend some weekend nights at Metro, take a few trips - around the lake, Cedar Point, Sarnia, Lexington. Most of the time with the TotLot and we try to get out both days every weekend in the summer. We're usually successful too, and try to, as CBJ said, "enjoy life to the fullest." If we're home on a saturday afternoon, that means it's raining all day or the boat's broke and everyone is bummed out.

Happy Birthday Freckles!

Hey XO, you get up to early... I would have posted this earlier, but I was up late clearing out the garage and this morning Christine said she almost called the police to report her car stolen from the driveway.

Happy Birthday Christine! Love you lots!

The McRib was far and away the most disgusting fast food item I've ever tried to eat. I can't even think about it...

I don't know, ... that Arby-Q is pretty gross!

The Arby-Q is like filet mignon compared to the McRib. It was a blubbery, gristle-laden, formed patty of misery and despair, and no amount of lousy barbeque sauce could hide that. I just threw up a little typing that, I knew I shouldn't have thought about it.

Then again, maybe I just got a bad one.

(I still laugh out loud ever time I read that mcrib theory!)

Bill272 Posted on: Jul 22 2005, 12:21 AM

FOCKER!!!

No Lisa, I wasn't trying to pull one on anybody (whatever that means...lol) I usually don't make a big deal about it.

The kids coincidently went to a cake bakery as a field trip at their summer camp today where they got to decorate and bring home small cakes, so I've got 3 birthday cakes now. Went to PF Changs for dinner which was great execpt Adrian was crabby and said her stomach was bothering her. Started the heavy breathing thing that's usually the sign to get the really drunk person off the carpet, and if not into the bathroom, at least on tile. Christine ran her to the head, barely made it into a stall when she yakked, and she came back feeling great.

Once again, the best birthday ever...

Good uses for Vodka
Bill272 Posted on: Feb 16 2005, 05:00 PM

Hmmm... I think any use other than 21 is a waste of good alcohol. Ok, 20 would work too. I prefer to splash a few ounces over a couple of garlic stuffed olives and some ice to use as a mood enhancer and vampire repellant.

My Dog just ate my $100 memory stix
Bill272 Posted on: Jan 26 2005, 09:00 PM

We used to have a dog and cat and the dog would eat what she seemed to think were...ummm... brownies?? from the litter pan.

Instead of feeding and picking up crap for two animals, my idea was to just buy cat food and clean up after the dog. Christine didn't think it was a very good idea though...

If you were going to make your Favorite Sandwich
Bill272 Posted on: Jan 12 2005, 12:21 AM

I'd go with a good baked italian sub. Or a dinty moore- corned beef on rye with russian dressing and coleslaw. I just might have to get one for lunch tomorrow.

Hey, Bill...Happy Anniversary
Bill272 Posted on: Apr 29 2004, 12:17 PM

Get a room...go out for dinner... I'm so confused, what to do, what to do...

Thanks everyone for the congrats. Heck, most of the time it didn't even seem like work. One thing that shows we really get along is that we've trailered a boat for the last 14 years. While I don't know how many relationships end at the launch ramp, I've seen plenty that looked like they would. If we can survive that, the rest is easy...

Still no call from the receptionist. I think I'm safe...

Hey, Bill...Happy Anniversary
Bill272 Posted on: Apr 29 2004, 07:30 AM

This isn't nearly as embarassing as my annual birthday bouquet of ballons to the office. Hopefully I'm not going to have to avoid answering my phone today in case it's the receptionist calling to say there's a package at the front desk.

Anyways, everything you said?? - right back atcha. Of course, substitute wife and mother. Here's to 9 wonderful happy years of marriage, and those 6 other years too. (Haha - You know I had to say that, I'm just suprised you didn't say it first) I'm the luckiest man in the world and I'd marry you today if I had it to do over again. And they said it wouldn't last...

I'm glad I picked you too, and even more glad that you said "Yes".

What would your dream boat be?
Bill272 Posted on: Jan 12 2004, 11:03 AM

I'd go with a 37 or 42 Outerlimits (great hull and speed with a lot of creature comforts) or Cig Tiger (custom built with an enclosed head). I saw a Tiger in Powerboat a while back that just had a porta potty underneath a seat in the cabin on a 400k+ boat.

Ok, I'll throw in a 46 Black Thunder, too.

Christine, I enjoyed getting to know you, Bill and the family this year on the water. Bill was the first person to help us untie and walked us out of the Moot after our first TotLot day. My heart just aches for you. You are all in our thoughts and prayers, and it goes without saying please ask any of us for anything.
God Bless.

I am so sorry for you and your kids' loss, Christine. I received a call yesterday from Convincor about what happened and was just speechless.

Even now, I find it hard to think of what to type that may bring even the slightest bit of comfort or support. He was a great guy and will be missed. sad.gif

Christine, I am so sorry! I am not sure how to express my condolences and sincere love and prayers for you and the kids.
Bill was a terrific person, he always had sometime nice to say and gave great insite into conversations. It was apparent that you and he were the best of friends...Our whole family is so sorry and have truly been in a state of shock since we found out.

Please know that you and the kids will be in our prayers- IF there is anything we can do,... please do not hesitate to ask. I know you pry have a close family and a ton of friends to lean on- take advantage of that during this most difficult time.

GOD BLESS you and the kids Christine.

This is such a sad sad day, many prayers to you and your family Christine. Bill was one of the nicest person I have ever had the pleasure of knowing. He was allways the first person to help you dock or raft off and would be the first to help you push off. I never saw him without a smile. Brandon and Alicia still talk of the trip to Browns that they got to ride with you and Bill on. I am a better man for knowing him. If you need anything at all please call us even if it is just to talk or have the kidz come over and play with ours so you can have some time. So very sorry.

Christine, Adrian and Jackson... Our thoughts and prayers go out to you and your family. I cannot begin to express how much Bill will be missed by us. We have always enjoyed his company and especially his witty sense of humor. He was a good person with good morals and family values and that is what we love most about him and your family.

Christine,

You and your family have been in my thoughts and prayers. Bill was such a good guy. When we first met the totlot he was the first one to help us tie up and to help us leave. He loved you so much and your love for each other showed. We are going to miss Bill so much it hurts to think about it.

Please call us and lean on your friends.

I love you and will be there for you.

Christine
You and your family are in mine and Dan's thoughts and prayers. We only met you that one time last year at Metro Beach, but thoroughly enjoyed the time we had. I feel like I know you both so well just from all the hundreds of posts from Bill on this site. Anyone can easily see what he felt for you & your children. You obviously have the love of many, many friends here, and hopefully that can give you and your family some peace & comfort. And how wonderful that Bill's organ donations will change the lives of so many lucky recipients

Peace be with you

Dave
